The Most High rules in the governments of men, and gives it to whomever He will, and sets up over it the basest of men (Daniel 4:17).

In this verse, not only do we see the sovereignty of God clearly revealed in human governments, so that He gives them to whomever He pleases, but we also see His decreed choice of earthly rulers.

Many attempt to pursue a purpose that is contrary to God’s revealed standard – which is to give the current governments of the earth to the basest of men.” This is quite a commentary on who “wins” elections.

The fact is that believers are indeed innately extremely political. However, our political jurisdiction is just not on earth; “for our politics [πολίτευμα, politeuma] are in heaven (Philippians 3:20).

Although conducted with genuine, godly passion, these misplaced heavenly politics become vainly exercised in the earthly realm. Believers have high-level politics (ἐπουράνιος, epouraniosi.e., the “high places” Ephesians 6:12), and we with patience await our turn among the governments of the celestials.C2Pilkington-4

My times are in Thy hand (Psalms 31:15).

Thank God, He said “times.” Yes, my times are always in His hand. All my times: my times of sorrow and of joy; of trouble and of danger. All are in the hand of my God.

God Keeps the Reins in His Hand

We know too much about things in this world to lean much on man. … Every single item of history today is certainly in accord with God’s intention, even though it seems that almost all of it is contrary to His will. Only if that is true can we have universal reconciliation. God can save all mankind eventually only if He keeps the reins in His hand. All will not simply be saved, but reconciled, glorifying God. All this is fulfilling God’s intention. …

So let us give thanks for it, no matter how bad it seems to be. When we realize this, then we can live in this insane asylum, and we will not quarrel with the inmates. … We acknowledge that all is out of Him, as well as through Him and, consequently will be for Him in the great consummation.

When the Goal Is Attained

For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to Whom be glory for ever. Amen (Romans 11:36).

In the issues of God’s dispensations there can be no permanent ill. He is absolutely good. Of Him are all things, through Him are all things, and to Him are all things (Romans 11:36).

When the goal is attained, all will be well. When our visions are unsealed by the life immortal, we shall perceive that what our finite sense termed ill in this life was but a necessary part of the great and wonderful plan of human redemption.
